Why “Arbuckles” you ask? I was greatly influenced by my grandmother Phyllis Arbuckle Zell who had a way of making everyone feel welcome at her table. She served delicious – never pretentious – meals, and was always ready to try something new. Arbuckles honors her spirit of inclusiveness, generosity and fun!
How does a person go from project manager in Human Resources to getting up super early to make bagels everyday? A longing for a real bagel and a good alarm clock. As an American with Midwestern roots, I’m not the most obvious choice to be a bagel baker. After 20+ years in the corporate world, I decided it was time for a change – albeit one with less predictability, but an increased opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, do what I love, and give Basel the gift of fresh, New York-style bagels.
Working my way through university in a wholesale bakery in San Francisco gave me not only work experience in a professional kitchen, but also a candid look at the challenges of making it in the food business. With a young baby on my hip, a supportive husband at my side, a very good refrigerator (yes – critical for good bagels), and over two years of practice making & selling bagels to a small group of fans, I’m ready to give it a shot.
Whether you're assembling the perfect assortment of bagels for brunch at home, or building a menu to feed your entire office staff party, Arbuckles can help you come up with the perfect offering.
